Data Protection 4+ - 24 Month Contract

Leading FTSE 100 FMCG Company requires a Legal Counsel to fulfil a critical data protection project. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 2 years of data protection/privacy experience from a leading law firm who now wishes to change direction and move in-house. Data Protection experience may have been gained within a specialist department, within litigation department or as part of a more commercially orientated position.

Reporting to the Senior Counsel for Global Compliance, the role will include providing data protection advice and training to business and legal colleagues and dealing with a wide range of issues and queries that arise. The specific responsibilities are as follows:
* Playing a key role in supporting the development, coordination and implementation of the company's global data protection programme covering people, policies, process, systems and applications with a focus on continuous improvement as well as being effective in risk management yet bringing maximum simplicity to what is required with a particular focus in F18 on supporting the Senior Counsel Global Compliance with delivering the project to ensure the company is fully prepared for the EU General Data Protection Regulation including supporting and working alongside project leads or with working groups on issues, researching and understanding emerging regulatory guidance across the EU Member States and emerging regulations, including cyber security laws that impact on processing of personal information;
* Provision of privacy risk management advice and consultation to business units operating globally, including dealing with problem solving and a high volume of often complex queries and support to Privacy Impact Assessments, exercise of individuals rights under data protection laws, supporting breach response in relation to certain privacy incidents and data breaches;
* Ensuring that data protection becomes fully embedded as a part of business as usual at the company, through the development of an extensive range of relationships within key functions, including;
* Fostering a culture of data protection at the company by raising awareness and advocating privacy-by-design;
* Working to ensure that data protection is fully integrated into the company's compliance framework and model;
* Supporting the company's data protection policies, accountability and sharing of best practices across the organisation.
* Close collaboration, as part of the Global Data Protection Programme, with the GDPR project manager and information and records management and security specialists reporting to the Head of Information Security Director within the company
* Provision of privacy risk management advice, guidance and consultation to business units operating globally including company market and global functions lawyers and potentially future Compliance officers or subject matter experts in markets;
