Our client operates in the real estate sector; the business has been established in London for over 15 years and has undergone a period of swift expansion and - partly as a result of new investment - significant further growth both inside and outside the UK is projected. The role of Compliance Officer is a key role to enhance and de-risk its current operations and future expansion plans. It is essential that the person who undertakes this role has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is able to engage with the business.
The role is an excellent role with opportunities for career development, international exposure and travel and the chance to join a rapidly growing business sector. Responsibilities will include:
*Acting as DPO.
*Keeping management informed of any material statutory/regulatory developments in the UK and other jurisdictions where the business may begin operations.
*Managing and monitoring risks throughout the business, including ownership of the risk register.
*Assisting in the forthcoming launch in Germany including ensuring compliance with necessary rules and regulations before opening. Other European countries will hopefully then follow.
*Evaluating existing and forthcoming regulations, including with respect to anti-corruption, financial crime, anti-money-laundering, KYC, GDPR and virtual office matters.
*Working closely with IT team to ensure the business fully abides by its responsibilities under the GDPR and is a champion of data privacy.
*Proactively fostering relationships with any relevant regulators and industry bodies.
*Responsible for KYC of new clients and suppliers, including conducting KYC searches using Creditsafe.
*Seeking and implementing innovative solutions to compliance issues and solutions with a view to effectiveness, speed and best value.Requirements:
*Strong educational background including achieving 2.1 degree at respected university.
*At least 2 years' experience of dedicated compliance work within a sophisticated organisation, ideally also including acting as a DPO.
*Strong experience and understanding of the GDPR and data privacy.
*You must have exceptional organisational skills in order to handle and track a diverse workload.
*Ability to challenge management and peers where appropriate to achieve engagement on projects and drive implementation.
*Ability to interact effectively with regulatory authorities or statutory bodies and to communicate effectively, at all levels of the organisation (including investors).
*Ability to plan and deliver periodic and appropriate training to employees and management on key compliance topics.
*Ability to draft policies from scratch and communicate policies effectively to the business.
Desirable - Some experience of managing people, fluency in another European language, a track record of successfully building relationships with management and experience of Real Estate, hospitality or serviced office sector would all be
desirable but are by no means essential.
Salary up to £50,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
