Established and motivated commercial disputes partner sought by Global 100 US firm in London.

In an unpredictable economic climate, this firm has continued to perform strongly, with a noteworthy increase in profits.  With PEP standing at more than $1m, and a lawyer count that will soon exceed 1000, the firm’s financial clout and critical mass is ahead of a large proportion of the UK Top 20.

If you remain unconvinced that your current firm is perfectly placed to thrive in today’s challenging climate, now is the time to switch to a partnership on a sure financial footing with a bright future.

Joining this firm as a commercial litigation and/or arbitration partner will be a lucrative move, especially for a partner at a UK headquartered private practice, as the firm offers a rewarding remuneration package that typically exceeds competitor UK firms.

The firm has significant coverage throughout the US, and a significant client base and reputation for its UK partnership to leverage.  Equally positively, its UK and European strategy revolves around London, its main base in Europe, which enables the partners in London to exercise a high degree of autonomy and self-determination.

Compared to the majority of US firms in London, particularly the New York firms, there is a large contrast in culture.  Billing targets are very sensible, for example, in line with mid-market UK firms in fact, and the working environment and general approach is relaxed and collegial, in accordance with the partnership’s southeastern US roots.

The London office’s modest size also positively supports the friendly and sociable atmosphere, and further underlines the extent to which a strategic lateral partner hire can quickly become make a significant and valued contribution.

Whilst a full service offering, the focus of the practice in the UK largely reflects the firm’s overall strengths in the US, with a particularly strong reputation in energy, private equity, banking, life sciences, and food and beverages, amongst other things.  Hence a commercial litigation partner whose practice has synergies with these sectors would fit particularly well.

This commercial litigation and/or arbitration partner hire is driven by several key factors, namely:

* the firm’s keen interest in further developing its London practice to more closely match up to its standing in the US, including on the commercial disputes side specifically;

* a desire to rebalance contentious/non-contentious strengths in the London office, where there are currently a greater number of corporate and transactional lawyers and fewer litigators (eight fee earners in total in CDR) to capitalise on revenue opportunities; and

* mid-term succession planning for the commercial litigation practice in London.

The firm has proven a popular destination for partners from elite UK and US firms alike, particularly for partners who want to be paid their true market value without excessive billing expectations, and/or who are keen to step away from a political and fraught environment in favour of a more relaxed and autonomous setup.
